Inspiration
When I first learned that the majority of this assignment was illustration, I got very excited. Illustration is my main art focus, and I was looking forward to playing around with something I was familiar with. For the bear chair, I wanted the design to be something that represented my art style. I also enjoy collaging, and the bone phone allowed me to work on improving my skills in terms of composition and hierarchy.
Process
My process was fairly straightforward. My goal was to focus on my illustration skills by challenging myself to draw animals and objects with minimal references. I started sketching out ideas that made me happy since I knew I would be spending a lot of time on this project. This left a drawing that had a much more graphic look. Many of my sketches were a bit too detailed for my comfort, I wanted to make something that was a healthy mix of illustration and graphics. The bone phone was a little different, however, as I was initially going to illustrate it. I decided to make the bone phone a collage as it was simple enough to play around with using photographs and text.
